Mexico Beaches: Tulum Beach

Located on the Caribbean coast and south of the huge Mexico resorts of Cancun, this beach is a favorite of visitors to Mexico. There are Mayan ruins that overlook the beach and the sea, and they give it an otherworldly look and feel. The waters are clear and many visitors to Tulum Beach prefer to snorkel and swim in the sea. This beach is not for tourists who want to find a quiet secluded beach. There are many souvenir shops, cafes and even a huge car park at its entrance.

Mexico Beaches: Playa del Carmen Beach

Also located on the Caribbean coast is the Playa del Carmen Beach. This beach also draws its fair share of tourists on Mexico vacations, but it is significantly quieter than Tulum Beach. There are many excellent restaurants and bars along the beach, and Playa del Carmen is an excellent spot to buy some quality, handmade local crafts. Many visitors to the beach rave about the jewelry they bought. There are also boats that take beachgoers to the island of Cozumel. Cozumel is a major draw for tourists who want to experience snorkeling and scuba diving in its incredibly clear waters.

Mexico Beaches: Zipolite Beach

The Zipolite Beach is strictly for the backpackers and not families. This beach is extremely secluded and quiet, and is miles away from the crowded beaches near major resort towns. The atmosphere here is laid back and the beach is sandy and quite magnificent. Visitors should be careful when entering the water from Zipolite Beach because the currents can be quite strong.

Tips for Traveling to Mexico Beaches

The busy holiday season begins in July and ends in August, and many travelers also choose to travel to Mexico and its beaches around Christmas and Easter. During these times, you may encounter too many beachgoers. An overcrowded beach presents too many problems and it is easy to lose a family member or a friend in the crowd. Another big negative for traveling during these high times is the weather; it gets incredibly humid in August and September, and the humidity attracts many insects.

There are many fine beaches in Mexico, but be sure to ask around and see if any other vacationers know of a secret spot. During the high tourist season, the beaches easily become overcrowded and this can ruin your holiday. Don't be afraid to venture off in order to find a private, and peaceful, beach oasis.
